Shut'er down? Really?

Disclaimer: Our household runs on federal dollars.

In the words of Tom Brokaw (paraphrasing), not in his lifetime has a president had to govern in the midst of so many major events, catastrophic events, economic events.  Three wars now, earthquake and tsunami in Japan, bank collaspes, coroded housing market, unemployment through the roof, multiple Middle East government collapses, shaky US economy as a result of these multiple events.  The cost has been paid in human life and suffering.

It's too much.  We've said in this household, what could possibly happen next?

Government shutdown.  Cool.  The rogue (yes, I've taken back the word, see previous post on Sarah Palin) group of freshmen Republican Congressmen and women are demanding it.  Nothing short of putting millions out of work satisfy them.  It's a novice move and it looks as though they will get their victory. And for what purpose?  War?  Economy? Democracy?  Nope.  Because they are against abortion.

I don't have a problem with their position against abortion. I don't agree it, but I especially don't agree with holding the national budget hostage until funding to Planned Parenthood is taken out of the budget.  There's a time and place to wage that war (committees before the budget goes to the floor, it's called democracy).

The Republicans likely will win this battle.  Shame on them.

It is frustrating to see Obama being blamed for this shut down. I am worried the Republicans are going to get points for "sticking to their guns." I am just confused at how the Republicans have supporters when they keep screwing over their constituents. They hate welfare, they hate women's rights, they hate hispanics. That is unAmerican.
